My Approach to Therapy
I often hear from clients that they have been disappointed working with previous therapists because of lack of structure. Unclear goals, unmeasurable markers of progress, and momentum-less dialogue left them feeling uncertain about how the hour of therapy had been helpful, or why they were going in the first place.
It is true that growth is not a linear.
At the same time — I believe it is critical to actively provide clarity and structure to the therapeutic process. We will identify goals together, explore and navigate the obstacles to getting there, and collaborate on what’s working and what isn’t. I will explain to you what techniques and modalities we are using and why they can be helpful. I will keep us on track, help you measure progress and hold you accountable to taking active steps towards getting there. I will pause and ask for feedback so you have opportunities to shape our time together.
The goal is not for you to be in therapy forever. The goal is to help you achieve the progress you hope to see for yourself until you feel ready to implement what you’ve learned in therapy on your own.
